Environment Control of Madison is born as five local businessmen purchase
the Dane County franchise rights from the national Environment Control
organization.
-
Having gone through five managers in six years, the local partners hire
24 year old John Lamb as General Manager. He promptly begins cleaning
as well as trying on other business hats: supervisory, sales, administration
and personnel. The company consists of five or six small buildings and
as many employees.
-
Current Vice President of Support & Development, Tom Hanson is hired
by John as a "supervisor" and promptly begins cleaning. He is a Senior
in high school and would laugh if you told him that he would be employed
with Environment Control 24 years later.
- The company slowly but surely
grows in revenues, capability, and number of facilities and employees.
-
John signs two new, larger sized facilitiesGreat Lakes Higher
Education Corporation and Madison Medical Centerthat represent
a major step forward for the company (both have remained EC clients
to this day).
Current Administrative Manager, Jan Concklin, joins the team as a part-time
Administrative Assistant, beginning her long, productive, and versatile
career with EC.
-
After gradually purchasing ownership from the original partners throughout
the 1980's, John buys out the last partner and becomes 100% owner of
Environment Control in Madison.
Steve Fosnot signs on with EC to help manage a temporary contract at
American Family Insurance's new National Headquarters. The contract
ends but Steve's career goes onward … and upward.
- EC Madison enters a period of rapid growth. Having developed the necessary
background experience and expertise, the company makes the transition
from small-scale janitorial firm to a successful Building Service Contractor
with substantial (and increasing) market share in the Madison Area.
During this period, new relationships are developed with a variety of
large facility clients, including: the State of Wisconsin Departments
of Administration, Military Affairs and Agriculture, American Family
Insurance, American Red Cross, Anchor Bank, Certegy, MGE and UW Health.
-
President and Owner John Lamb welcomes Vice Presidents Steve Fosnot
and Tom Hanson as partners and minority Owners in Environment Control
of Madison.
-
Fred Volker becomes Environment Control's new Sales Manager, joining
EC after serving the company for years as a key supply vendor.
EC is rewarded by the national Environment
Control organization for its progress with expansion of territory rights
for the entire state of Wisconsin, paving the way for future growth.
-
EC relocates its offices, moving from the "Industrial Park" splendor
of Index Road on Madison's south side to its current "Class A" location
in the Old Sauk Trails Corporate Business Park.
Environment Control of Madison wins the "Corporate Award of Excellence"
from EC National, the highest honor bestowed by the organization, in
part recognizing the company's ongoing status as the highest performing
Environment Control franchise.
- While the company continues to grow in the Madison area, plans are
made to begin expansion into other locations in the State: the Fox Valley
is targeted as the first area for expansion.
-
EC Madison again wins the National organization's highest honor, the
"Corporate Award of Excellence."
-
EC Madison officially becomes as operations in Fox Valley begin in February with
the signing of four Affinity Health clinics along with several other
smaller facilities. Plans for expansion into the Milwaukee area begin.
-
ECWISCONSIN.COM goes online in May.
EC of Wisconsin bids farewell to Steve
Fosnot, Vice President, Operations. Pursuing his dream of owning and
operating his own EC company, Steve purchases a company in north Seattle,
WA. Tom Hanson & John Lamb purchase Steve's minority interest and
Tom takes on the task of managing operations in Wisconsin.
